An article posted this January by Protect America says this year the home security industry will eclipse $100 billion dollars! That’s astronomical. Are we such an unsafe nation where $100 billion dollars needs to be poured into home security? That figure blew me away.
We have home security systems because we don’t want people uninvited to come into our home to steal and/or cause physical harm.
If you have an alarm system is it safe to assume you have it to protect your loved ones and valuables? What do you consider valuable? If a burglar came into your house, what do you think they would steal?
Or are you on the other side of the equation? When you walk away from your car, leaving it unlocked, saying to a friend “There is nothing in there worth stealing anyways.” A thief is coming to steal something they feel is valuable. You likely would as well. I mean, someone is likely not going to break in simply to steal your toilet paper.
Jesus says this of Himself and our enemy:
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10
Isn’t that why the home security industry is worth $100 billion dollars?! We are protecting against those that would steal, kill and destroy? What type of an alarm system do you have over your spiritual life?
Even if you don’t buy into this Jesus thing, can you buy into good and evil? Can you buy into a spiritual enemy in this world seeking to do us harm? We have an enemy who is perhaps best described as a thief. Thieves seek to take something they consider valuable. They don’t waste their time on irrelevant and invaluable items.
If you are spiritually attacked, it’s because you have value.
"He wants to do anything he can to keep you from Jesus."
What you have is of value and must be protected. Our enemy, the thief, wants your soul. He wants to do anything he can to keep you from Jesus. He NEVER has your best interest in mind. He is selfish. He is the father of LIES. He is evil in its purest form. We must protect ourselves from his evil ways.
Can I suggest three ways to protect our spiritual home?
Pray.
Yes, I am Pastor Jason, of course I start with prayer. Some of you just rolled your eyes. Some of you are now tempted to click away. I can’t imagine life without prayer. I can’t imagine how one gets through the challenges of life without going before our God. The thief steals, but Jesus has come to grant me life!!! One way of protecting against the evil one is to seek the LIFE GIVER! It’s hard to steal what we have in abundance! Prayer too often is our last resort. It must become our first resort. You can’t defeat the evil one by yourself. You and I must seek Jesus. He’s already defeated Satan so He knows what He is doing. Pray. Fast. Invite others to pray for you. Start a prayer group. Join a Life Group where you can pray with others. Pray, pray and pray some more.
You’re worth it!
One line of protection is realizing what needs protection. If you own something in your house that you consider junk, you are not going to do anything to protect it. Is your toilet paper in your safe? Of course not. But if you know something is of incredible worth, you will take the needed steps to protect it. You have incredible worth. Jesus came to this Earth in obedience to His Father God. They have said you are worth dying for. In being worth dying for, God offers you eternal life. You can’t achieve this on your own. God demands death for our sins. Jesus satisfied the wrath of God in His death. Through belief in Jesus, you have eternal life. That means you are of eternal worth. The enemy is going to do everything he can to steal what is considered eternally valuable. Understand your worth and cling to Jesus. The enemy wants you to feel worthless. If you feel worthless you won’t feel worth protecting. If you view yourself as one with infinite worth, you will do what you need to do to protect yourself. YOU HAVE ETERNAL WORTH. YOU ARE NOT WORTHLESS. CLING TO JESUS.
"If you view yourself as one with infinite worth, you will do what you need to do to protect yourself."
Truth is FREEDOM.
The enemy is the father of all lies. He wants you to believe you’re worthless. He wants you to believe you don’t need to pray. He wants you to believe you don’t need Jesus. He wants you to believe you’re doing “ok.” He wants you to believe you have no areas in need of growth. He wants you to believe your sin isn’t a big deal. He wants you to believe that joy and happiness in life should be found in anything BUT Jesus. LIES, LIES, LIES. His number one tactic is to get us to believe a lie. If we believe lies, we are easy targets. The only way to know a lie is to know the truth that would make it a lie. You don’t have to be in God’s word, YOU GET TO BE! God has given us His word to help protect us against the evil one. The Holy Spirit is able to use God’s word to help expose the lies of the evil one. It’s a tool the Holy Spirit uses for our ultimate freedom. Are you in the word? Is it a tool available to the Holy Spirit in your life?
