Overview of the Series: Play-cation 2021 is the combination of two preaching series. We had intended to have a series; one for Luke 11 and one for Luke 12. But then we saw a greater need in our church, the need for connection and togetherness. So we themed our summer around the togetherness need rather than the preaching. In Luke 11 and 12 you are going to see a very blunt and direct Jesus. You will hear Him teach in a masterful way. As followers of Jesus read these chapters, they will be challenging to your faith.
The Win for the Series: As we are challenged by the words of Jesus, we must grow together. The win for those looking to go deeper in their walk with Jesus is truly iron that sharpens iron. It’s a win when we learn to speak truth in love while learning to receive truth in love.
Tools for Going Deeper
A Memory Verse: I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. ~Romans 12:1-2
A Worship Anthem: Since we are doing a series that will span the summer months, the worship team has come up with some “summer jams.” They are a mixture of fun, upbeat and some that would drive us to think deeper.
A RightNow Media Series: “Acts” by David Platt
More than any other book in the New Testament, the book of Acts provides us with a clear picture of how the early church made disciples in obedience to the command of Christ and multiplied churches in order to advance the kingdom of Christ. This series challenges individuals and churches to put aside traditions, comforts, preferences, and programs in order to follow the example of the early church as they beheld the glory of Christ, relied upon the Spirit of Christ, and proclaimed the gospel of Christ.
A Deeper Study: Summer Play-cation studies!
We have studies going all throughout the summer with the goal of bringing people together to study the word of God. We want to provide easy, unobtrusive ways to connect this summer. In the link above you will find information about a special Summer Life Group with the Wilson’s, a dudes study with Pastor Jason (includes bacon burgers), a women's study with Ava and Heather Wilson (bonus, this is happening on the beach), a new starting point with Laura Millan and Gail Lopes, and The Reasons for God with the Elias Family. Great opportunities to re-connect and go deeper!
A Book: The Gospel Comes with a House Key by Rosaria Butterfield
The word “hospitality” can often create various levels of anxiety because of the perfect images of fashionably dressed hosts and impeccable homes that media and culture bombard us with. Yet, Rosaria Butterfield, in The Gospel Comes with a House Key, casts a far more reassuring and ordinary vision for what hospitality should actually look like. Using engaging stories from her own experiences of being on the receiving end of radically ordinary hospitality, Butterfield shows how one’s simple, but authentic, welcome can become a bridge for the gospel to reach the lost friends and neighbors in your life. This type of hospitality views our homes as God’s tools where authentic love and grace can be seen in action, revealing what true Christian faith looks like.
