"Onward" Dig the Well Guide

Overview of the Series: Think guy on horse leading the calvary, sword extended, yelling “ONWARD.'' But in that Braveheart, freedom cry type voice. The point of this series is to help us see that we are in a battle against the evil one and we’ve got some territory to reclaim with the gospel message of Jesus Christ. We can sit in headquarters and never experience any action, or we can march ONWARD! This series is to help us better understand and pursue the mission and vision God has laid upon Wellspring Church.

The Win for the Series: LEAVE HEADQUARTERS, get on mission and pray like it all depends on God (hint hint, IT DOES!)

Tools for Going Deeper

Don't feel pressure to do all of these, we challenge you to just pick one!

The intent of the “Go Deeper Guide” is to do just that, help guide us deeper. See the items below as tools for deeper growth. We want to go beyond Sunday morning, growing deeper with Jesus throughout the week. What does growing deeper with Jesus look like? It looks like living like Jesus! Oh man, we’ve got work to do, let’s go…

A Memory Verse:  18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” ~Matthew 28:18-20

A Book: Gaining by Losing by J. D. Greear

People are leaving the church J.D. Greear pastors. Big givers. Key volunteers. Some of his best leaders and friends. And that’s exactly how he wants it to be.

When Jesus gave his disciples the Great Commission, he revealed that the key for reaching the world with the gospel is found in sending, not gathering. Though many churches focus time and energy on attracting people and counting numbers, the real mission of the church isn’t how many people you can gather. It’s about training up disciples and then sending them out. The true measure of success for a church should be its sending capacity, not its seating capacity.

But there is a cost to this. To see ministry multiply, we must release the seeds God has placed in our hands. And to do that, we must ask ourselves whether we are concerned more with building our kingdom or God’s.

In Gaining By Losing, J.D. Greear unpacks ten plumb lines that you can use to reorient your church’s priorities around God’s mission to reach a lost world. The good news is that you don’t need to choose between gathering or sending. Effective churches can, and must, do both.
